Initial teacher training in Wales is called Initial Teacher Education (ITE).
Full advice on routes into teaching in Wales is given through the Welsh Government site Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and their associated website Educators Wales.
Since the academic year 2020/21, there have been seven ITE partnerships for ITE programmes that have been accredited by the Education Workforce Council (EWC):
-
CaBan (Bangor University);
-
Yr Athrofa: Professional Learning Partnership (APLP) (University of Wales Trinity St David, Carmarthen and Swansea);
-
Swansea University Schools’ Partnership;
-
University of South Wales ITE Partnership;
These partnerships are presently under review and may change, so it is important to check the updated Welsh Government site.
The NASUWT provides FREE membership to students taking any route to qualified teacher status for the full duration of their training.
If you are currently undertaking or are about to start your initial teacher training, it is vital that you join a teachers’ trade union. You can join the NASUWT online or email our Membership Team.
