Ten top tips for a healthy classroom

1. There are no trip hazards, such as loose carpets or trailing leads
2. Furniture, fixtures, fittings (including electrical sockets) are safe
3. There is a thermometer to check that the temperature is reasonable
4. The windows open easily, or there is some other form of ventilation
5. The exit/evacuation routes are clearly signposted
6. There are no strange/unpleasant smells
7. There are no signs of mould growth, damp or leaks
8. There is a comfortable workstation
9. The room is clean without any accumulation of rubbish
10. The lighting is appropriate to the work undertaken

If you have chosen 'No' to any of these statements about your workplace, report this to your employer. If no action is taken, contact the NASUWT.
