Since 2022, statutory safeguarding guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education has recommended that schools undertake online searches of shortlisted candidates as part of their due diligence checks. The NASUWT is concerned about the equalities implications of this, especially as the guidance does not provide any detail on how to conduct these searches legally and morally. This session looks at the issue, and how schools should approach this recommendation to ensure a fair process without the risk of discrimination.
